Selection procedure and principle of cables in ship power system

1. Choose the appropriate cable type according to the purpose, laying position and working conditions of the cable.

2. Select the appropriate cable section according to the working system, type of power supply, cable core and load current of the electrical equipment.

3. According to the short circuit current calculation results of the system, whether the short circuit capacity of the segment cable meets the requirements.

4. Modify the rated load flow of the cable according to the ambient temperature, and then judge whether the allowable current of the cable is greater than the load current.

5. According to the correction coefficient of bundle laying, the rated load flow of the cable is corrected, and then the allowable current of the cable is judged to be greater than the load current.

6. Check the line voltage drop and judge whether the line voltage drop is less than the specified value.

7. Judge whether the cable is in harmony with the protection device according to the setting value of the protection device; If not, determine whether the appropriate protection or setting can be changed, otherwise the appropriate cable surface should be reselected.
